Just started the series. I've read that the language was purposely update to create the feeling of brutality and sense of danger inherent in a lawless mining camp. So far, the series is interesting, but I have to remember it's still Hollywood and therefore a heightened reality. I just started Season 1, so please avoid spoilers, but what did the rest of you think of the series?
It's one of my favorite TV shows. I have all three series on DVD and have watched them a couple of times. The DVDs have some interesting documentaries about recreating the time period and combining historical facts and personalities with fictional content, including how language is used.
Mining camps were notorious for foul language, foul actions and foul conditions. One of my favorite things about the show was how they portrayed the main thoroughfare. Unlike some western films, where there is a nice, clean wide-open "main street," in Deadwood the thoroughfare, as it is called, is filled with litter, mounds of horse droppings, mud, an occasional drunkard, and so forth.
I'm here. Just been swamped with RL. DHR is just a group of five guys with day jobs and we go through cycles.
I posted some replies in the Forum topics.
